So far since I started requesting and publishing records, I have almost exclusively focused on state government.
In 2023, I want to broaden my horizons to dig more into municipal and hyper local government. So any of Arizona’s 15 counties, many cities and towns and possibly even school boards or other areas that need poking into.
To do so I need some help from you.
My reporting background has not swayed me much in those directions but I know there is always corruption and shadiness going on everywhere and when there isn’t as much coverage in those areas as there is on say the governor or lawmakers, the people involved are more likely to keep doing shady business without anybody knowing.
Even if you’re just nosy like me and want to know what your local elected leaders are talking about behind closed doors, or maybe you need help getting police records or police video, or something fun like this story on the state’s rejected license plates.
I’m all ears. DM me on Twitter, email me at dillon@fourthestate48.com, reply here or comment below.
Also if you’re not subscribed yet please do so. Even if you opt for the free version, the only way I can keep doing this newsletter (which I love doing) is if more people read and share the posts.
And if you are willing and able to pay for a subscription, prices are now at $7.50/month or $75/year. I am willing to work with you for a more affordable option as well if these are too steep.
Your subscriptions are what will keep me in business. I haven’t earned enough yet for this to be financially feasible for awhile, but I’m hoping that will change in the next six months.
Thanks for reading/subscribing/sharing your ideas with me.
I’m excited to hear your suggestions for public records.
I appreciate all of your coverage and work here! I'm not sure if whom to request for these records, but I'm a resident of downtown Mesa, and I've longed been fascinated by the city's continual mismanagement of Site 17--a big swath of land near downtown, which the city emptied using eminent domain, displacing many working-class Latino families, in the late 80s to make way for multiple development projects that have never come to fruition. The latest updates came in December and it sounds like there's some backroom negotiating that isn't going well for the City https://www.themesatribune.com/news/jinxed-downtown-mesa-parcel-bitten-again/article_12011916-7d97-11ed-84c0-1f0f876002cc.html
With all that preface, I'm wondering if the offices of Mayor Giles, Jeff McVay, City Manager Chris Brady, or Councilmember Duff would have some records that could help clarify what's going on.
Can you please find out information about the Fairgrounds. I know they were in negotiations with the Gila River Community to move the fair there. Did that die? The State Fair provides no information on their website about future meetings or previous minutes. Thank you
