Former Pima County lawmaker, Mark Finchem, who recently filed to run for Maricopa County Recorder (even though he lost Maricopa County during his unsuccessful bid for Secretary of State in 2022) now has his sights set on the State Senate in Yavapai County’s LD1.
But there’s one major problem so far. Finchem is not registered to vote in Yavapai County despite already filing paperwork saying he lives in the district and is able to collect signatures through the state’s E-Qual system.
I recently obtained his voter file (again) to see if he was registered in Maricopa County when challenging Stephen Richer was of interest to him and learned he registered to vote in the state’s largest county back in January at a Biltmore-area apartment complex1, which was before he resigned as a PC in Pima County.
Updated records2 from Maricopa County show that Finchem is still registered to vote at that address. In Maricopa County. Which is not in Yavapai County where Finchem is collecting signatures to run against Sen. Ken Bennett (one of the only Republicans willing to work close with Gov. Katie Hobbs) in LD1.
I reached out to Yavapai County, just in case, to see if Finchem was registered at the address on Shiloh Rd he claimed he lives and is using to run for State Senate.
“Mr. Finchem is not currently registered in Yavapai County but does have a voter registration application pending,” the county’s registrar of voters said. “Due to the fact we have an active election in process in the City of Prescott, we cannot process any new registrants in the jurisdiction until our books open 21 days after the election.”
Of course “pending” shows the intention of living in a residence which is all that’s needed to prove as a candidate in order for a judge to rule in their favor if a residency check ever came up. But also, Finchem only has to live in the district for a year before he would be elected, so he has plenty of time to move there, but what’s really sketchy to me is Finchem might be lying about living in Maricopa County and now in Yavapai County all likely so he can continue to grift people into giving his campaigns money (especially if he gets elected again).
He easily could have waited the 21-day period before attempting to change his registration, but instead he’s misleading his would-be constituents that he’s never represented (or lived among) before that he’s one of them and is able to represent their interests that stretch further than “the election was stolen.”
We really don’t know where Finchem actually calls home, but we do know he’s willing to go from county to county looking for an office just so people will remember him.
One former state lawmaker told me that apartment is probably where he lived with Senate Majority Whip Sonny Borrelli during legislative sessions and that it might be owned by former State Rep. Noel Campbell. I’m looking into it.
Yes I once again requested Finchem’s voter file; maybe someone else should do it so I don’t have to.
I'm tired of reading about him too.
