Freshman GOP legislator ignores emails, wants money to meet
Taking a look at GOP Rep. Justin Heap's calendar.
In January, the Washington Post reported that freshman GOP Rep. Justin Heap (LD10 in Mesa) gave a qualifier to a lobbyist that in order for him to meet with her she would have needed to contributed to his 2022 campaign.
His calendars from January 9 through February 12 show that not only he did not meet with that lobbyist, Lauren Bouton from Consilium Consulting, but he didn’t meet with most of the people who requested one –– including constituents.
But another issue I found is Heap barely received any contributions to his campaign to begin with given his heavily red district where he (and Rep. Barbara Parker) didn’t face any primary challengers and only one long-shot Democrat in the general. Heap only raised $21,675 during the entire cycle –– $12,000 from family and a $5,000 loan from himself. His highest contributor was the Arizona Free Enterpriser Club, who contributed $2,500 in September.
After multiple attempts, Heap never met with them, according to his public calendar.
If Heap really wanted to know if Bouton or Consilium gave his campaign money, he easily could have checked himself through the state’s See The Money feature and quickly learned only six individuals or organizations contributed to his Heap for House account, if he didn’t already know this.
